The Climate and Weather of Malawi

The Best Time to Visit Malawi
- Malawi has a pretty hot summer rainfall season during the months of November to April so the best time to visit would be during the drier winter months, which are from early May to late October. Winter does tend to get pretty chilly high up on the northern Nyika Plateau but down on the shore of Lake Malawi you can expect warm, sunny and dry days which is perfect beach weather.
- Try avoiding a Malawi Holiday during the mid-summer months of January and February where temperatures can get uncomfortably hot and humid while rainfall is at its highest, so is the risk of malaria.
How Global Warming Is Affecting Malawi
- The climate change in Malawi is pushing the country further into poverty while women are suffering the most.
- The increase in temperature and rainfall over the past 40 years has led to drought and flooding, which are causing shorter growing seasons, poor crop production, food shortages, hunger, and the spread of disease in a country where 29% of the people are already living in extreme poverty.
- The women in Malawi have multiple roles such as farmers, caretakers of the children, and they provide the food, water and firewood meaning they are affected most by the climate change.
